Eric Moses Gurevitch is a historian of science, technology, and medicine in the medieval and early modern periods, with a focus on South Asia and the Indian Ocean. His first monograph, under contract with the University of Chicago Press, is titled Everyday Sciences: Practical Knowledge and Knowledgeable Practice in South Asia. It documents the rise of vernacular sciences in precolonial South Asia and explores how people turned to writing to describe practices such as predicting the weather, assaying gold, and healing poisons. His research has been supported by the Fulbright Commission, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Social Science Research Council, and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science.
