Medieval Studies Interdisciplinary Workshop

Reading Older Scots: An Introduction. Led by Alice Gibson (University of Glasgow/University of St Andrews), this brief foray into medieval Scottish literature will introduce participants to one of the most enduringly popular texts from the so-called 'Golden Age’—William Dunbar's Tretis of the Tua Mariit Wemen and the Wedo, a satirical debate on whether men and marriage are really worth the trouble. We will cover some of the basics of reading Older Scots (no prior knowledge required!), before having a go at some extracts from poem itself. Refreshments will be provided!
