Stephen Mitchell specializes in Nordic culture and literature, especially on topics centering on witchcraft, charm magic, mythology, legends, and popular traditions in the late medieval and early modern periods. Winner of the 2019 Jarl Gallén Prize, he is the author of *Heroic Sagas and Ballads* (Cornell University Press, 1991) and *Witchcraft and Magic in the Nordic Middle Ages* (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2011), and co-editor of *Minni and Muninn: Memory in Medieval Nordic Culture* (Brepols, 2014), *Old Norse Mythology: Comparative Perspectives* (Harvard University Press, 2017), and *Handbook of Pre-Modern Nordic Memory Studies: Interdisciplinary Approaches* (De Gruyter, 2018). He is now serving as a series editor of the six-volume *Cultural History of Magic*.
