 Stephanie Leitzel entered the History program in 2015, and currently is a Ph.D. candidate. Her scholarly interests revolve around the social and economic history of Europe, with a particular focus on Italy and the global connections of the Mediterranean in the medieval and early modern periods. She is primarily interested in issues of pre-industrial economic transformation. Stephanie graduated with Highest Distinction and Highest Honors from the University of Michigan in 2015, with a B.A in History, and minor in Medieval and Early Modern Studies. She is a Beinecke Scholar and has previously studied at the American Numismatic Society in New York and at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. In 2022-2023, she will be in residence at the American Academy in Rome as a pre-doctoral fellow.
