Dirceu Marchini Neto is Assistant Professor of Medieval and Modern History at the Federal University of Tocantins, Brazil. He holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Brasilia and a M.A. in Medieval and Renaissance History from the University of Porto. Professor Neto's research and writing focus upon the social, political, and military history of medieval Iberia, with a particular focus upon the development of the crusading and military orders from the twelfth through fifteenth centuries CE. He is the author of numerous articles on the history of the crusading orders, editor of A Idade Media: entre a História e a Historiografia (Editora da PUC Goias, 2012), coordinator of the research group Medium Aevum, and a member of the Latin American Society for the Study of the Military Orders and Crusades, the Brazilian Association on Medieval Studies, and the editorial board of the journal Signum.
