Charles Bartlett is a scholar of the commercial, legal and political history of European states, and of the history of Roman law in antiquity and in later periods. His current book project examines how Roman law was used in the context of the creation of political economy, especially on the Italian Peninsula, from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries.
