Arafat Razzaque is a doctoral candidate, whose research focuses on medieval Islamic social and intellectual history, classical Arabic biographical dictionaries, Abbasid historiography, family and kinship laws, and religion and gender in Islamic society. His dissertation addresses slamic scholarly ethics and the social functions of talk, including gossip and slander, in medieval Baghdad around the tenth century CE.
