Matthew Collins (University of Copenhagen and Cambridge University), Environmental History: A Molecular Take.

Environmental history explores the way in which we have been shaped by and have shaped our environment.  The research area has proved to be a successful forum for historians to work closely with natural scientists.  This talk explores the way in which we can begin to consider the very historical records themselves, namely books and legal documents made of parchment, arguing that we need to consider the materiality of the written record, in particular the rich record of DNA, protein and lipids which record annual events of the lives of livestock from the medieval and post-medieval record.
