Jesse Izzo is an historian whose research focuses on the diplomatic, military, and political history of the eastern Mediterranean in the Middle Ages. He recently completed a Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota (2016). His dissertation, entitled “The Fall of Acre: Diplomacy, Society, and War in the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem, c.1240-1291”, is a study of Frankish relations with the Mamluks of Egypt and Ilkhanid Mongols of Persia, and the cultural and social mentalities that conditioned those relations.
